Glutathione Antioxidant Detoxification

Glutathione, a tripeptide composed of three amino acids glutamic acid, cysteine and glycine, with a molecular weight of 307.32, exists in almost every cell of the body.

The liver is the main site for synthesizing glutathione in the body. Under normal conditions, the liver of healthy adults synthesizes 8 to 10 grams of glutathione per day.

The main functions of glutathione in the body are: antioxidant and detoxification.

1. Antioxidant:

As an important antioxidant in the body, glutathione can scavenge free radicals in the body. It can protect the sulfhydryl groups in many proteins and enzymes from being oxidized by harmful substances, so as to ensure the normal performance of the physiological functions of proteins and enzymes.

The content of glutathione in human red blood cells is very high, which is about 1,000 times that of plasma levels in red blood cells. Glutathione plays the role of anti-toxic free radicals. It is important to prevent hemolysis.

It can protect the gastrointestinal mucosal epithelium from damage to the intestinal mucosa due to inflammation, ischemia, and oxidative substances.

2. Detoxification.

The glutathione active group is easily combined with certain drugs, such as acetaminophen and ethanol, two potent liver toxins. There are also heavy metals such as lead, mercury, arsenic, etc., which have an integrated detoxification effect.

3. Whitening effect.

Glutathione can directly inhibit the activity of tyrosinase, and at the same time can sweep away a large number of oxidative free radicals, prevent free radicals from activating tyrosinase, and can also be hydrolyzed into cysteine, which interferes with melanin synthesis. That is to say, in the whitening process, it has the dual effect of "anti-oxidation" + "inhibition" at the same time.

4. Improve micro-inflammation.

Glutathione is helpful for inhibiting inflammatory factors and improving micro-inflammatory state.
