In addition, to analyze the effect of NMN treatment on intestinal mucosal permeability, the researchers measured the concentration of FITC dextran using fluorescence. In vivo imaging results showed that FD4 leakage was significantly increased in the DSS group compared with other groups (Figure A).

Compared with the DSS group, significant (P<0.01) and slight (P<0.05) decreases in FD4 concentration were observed in the N+D and D+N groups.
The anabolism of specific bile acids in the body helps reduce bacterial colonization and maintain intestinal health. In this study, bile acid-related metabolites and other beneficial metabolites were significantly increased in the feces of mice taking NMN.
Studies have shown that long-term use of NMN also reduces the permeability of the intestinal mucosa, increases the expression of tight junction proteins and promotes mucus secretion, maintaining the integrity of the intestinal epithelium.
